GRETSCH

1962 Reissue Country Gentleman c. 2010

1962 Reissue Country Gentleman c. 2010

$2,350.00

Though it carries the name of its great forbearer, the 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman was certainly made most famous by The Beatles’ own George Harrison, playing his prized 6122 on February 9, 1964 when 73 million people witnessed the start of the British Invasion.

Originally appearing in 1957, it was one of Gretsch’s first thin body designs; yet, unlike competitor Gibson’s ES-335 series, the 6122 was fully hollow.  Shortly after its introduction, Chet Atkins switched from his renowned 6120 to the 6122 particularly enjoying the newly released Filter’Tron pickups that provided him more balance across the sonic spectrum than he had been able to achieve with his single coil Dynasonics.

Fast forward to 2010 when this specific 6122 was built:  Based on a 1962 model, the 6122-1962 has all the period correct bells and whistles that made it the choice of such prominent players of days past.  TV Jones Classic Filter’Trons provide that clear ringing chime that has become synonymous with Grestch, while the gloss neck and “U” shaped profile make for a very fast playing instrument.  Dual Foam string mutes are also on display here, allowing one to mute the strings of the treble side, bass side, or both simultaneously.  This functionality comes in quite handy in rockabilly and travis style picking, no longer requiring the palm to mute any or all of the strings, allowing one to play in a more comfortable position while still getting the thumping, driving muted bass tones.

Though particularly suited for players of Americana and various roots styles, the 6122 Country Gentleman is a fine compliment to any guitar arsenal.

Condition

This particular guitar has been so lovingly cared for that there are practically no signs of playwear.  In fact, one might be challenged to believe it did not just roll off the factory floor.  As such, we would consider this to be in EXCELLENT+ Condition.
