The Holidays at Maple Street
It seems impossible, but I have been working at the shop for almost 8 years. Having been a working musician for most of my adult life, ”real jobs” were few and far between. I hesitate to call this a real job because I enjoy what we do so much. This is especially true around the holidays, when parents are getting first guitars for their children, grownups are deciding to take up the journey on their own, or the player who is using the holiday as an excuse to upgrade.
The philosophy of Maple Street Guitars is not to sell you something, but help you find something that you love and that works for you. An approach that I truly appreciate. I think it lends itself to the lifelong relationships that we enjoy with many of our customers. Around the holidays, we get visits from friends from near and far. Many folks who have moved away and are visiting relatives make a point to stop in and say hello and our regulars always make a point to visit during this time. It gets all warm and fuzzy up in here!
When I moved to Atlanta in 2010, one of the first things I wanted to do was find a Collings guitar. I had played a couple and fell in love with them. Luckily for me, Google brought me to Maple Street. The family was so welcoming and patient while I played several guitars, looking for ”mine”. I have always had fond memories of my shop of choice in the early days in Colorado, which had a similar philosophy, and I still keep in touch with the original owner. So, I completely understand the relationships that the Petsch family have with so many people. They remind me of my early experiences as a young musician in Denver. I know many of you feel the same way and I am happy to be a part of this special place in my later years.
All that being said, I want to wish all of our friends a happy holiday season and, hopefully, a kinder, gentler new year. Come say hi!
Peace,
John Cable, 2023
