Taylor Guitars Road Show
All of us around the shop had a wonderful time at the 2011 Taylor Guitars Roadshow. The event was in our store on the evening of November 16th. Despite the night being rather gloomy and cold, our shop was filled with Taylor fans. Our sales rep, Aaron Dablow, and Taylor clinician, Jason "Spanky" Salzman, provided a fact-filled evening, full of an impressive showcase of Taylor models. From acoustics to electrics, Dablow provided knowledgeable info on all showcased Taylor models, and "Spanky" gave inspiring demos throughout the array of Taylor models they had brought. A lucky few customers went home having purchased some of these incredible guitars. For photos of the event, be sure to check out our Facebook page at:

Tip of the "Month"
Now that the weather is getting colder, and the heat is turned on, keeping your guitar humidified is essential. The humidity of a room drops precipitously when the heat comes on, and a guitar can give up an enormous amount of its retained moisture in a hurry. As the guitar dries out, the top shrinks, the action falls--bringing the strings closer to the frets--and the frets become more prominent along the edges of the fingerboard. Eventually, the top can even develop a crack due to the stress of drying out. If your guitar develops fret buzzes, and the edges of your fretboard feel rough, your guitar may need some humidity relief. You can address the problem in a couple of ways:
1)
Humidify the room where your guitar lives. Ideally, put your guitar in a small room that can be closed off. Put in a humidifier, and get it running. Place your guitar on a stand in the room so that it can soak up the moisture. Close the door so that the humidifier can be most effective.
2)
Humidify the interior of the guitar. There are several guitar humidifiers available such as the
Dampit or the
Oasis humidification system. Place these devices so that they release moisture into the body cavity of your guitar. Put your guitar in a case, and let the humidifier do its job. It's that simple.
It is a good idea to purchase a hygrometer to measure the humidity of your guitar's environment. You can purchase inexpensive hygrometers to measure the humidity level in a number of stores, including Maple Street Guitars. We also recommend having in-case humidifiers on hand in case the temperature drops suddenly. For a full listing of our humidification products, please visit:

In Memoriam
Maple Street Guitars was deeply saddened to lose our friend and store mascot, Cricket. Cricket was known for her chipper and loving attitude, always happy to greet a customer and to make a new friend. Cricket was quite the popular doggy at the store, a friendly and loving face for children and adults alike. In recent months, Cricket had been in decline, and she passed away on December 12, 2011, at the ripe old age of fifteen.
Rest in Peace, sweet girl...
