October Staff Picks
John - Sarah Jarosz - Jealous Moon - This is the newly released single in anticipation of Sarah's latest album, Polaroid Lovers. If the single is any indication, the album will be stellar. She is one of the best modern folk artists around. You can also find her in I'm With Her, a collaboration with Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek) and Aoife O'Donovan.
Chris - Steven Wilson - The Harmony Codex - The latest album from my favorite songwriter has been described as a "kaleidoscope," encompassing the many aspects of his musical personality into an immersive hour+ long journey. I expect to be spinning this one a lot before the year's end.
Aaron - The Paper Kites - At the Roadhouse - I love the balance of older feel and modern songwriting qualities on this record. The whole thing is incredibly patient sounding and is best absorbed when listened to front to back. It curates more of a vibe than a story, which makes it perfect Sunday afternoon music as we move into autumn.
Lindsay - Aaron Rizzo - Anchor - Well, what can I say, this guy is talented! While the overall production value of this newly-released album is very impressive in its own right, it is the quality of the songwriting that grabs your attention. Indeed, as is true of any good song, one is impelled to relisten to fully appreciate the depth and emotional heft of the message. And, most importantly, behind all of the production and performance lies sincerity, the surprisingly elusive ingredient that makes for the most timeless music.
